APPLICATIONS

Alcohol

Example 1

User
Food plant
Application
Antifoaming
Model used
STS-6RW-1.0X

Problem

This food plant manufactures jelly cup desserts. Air bubbles sometimes occur when filling the jelly from the filling machine. When air bubbles enter the jelly, the surface of the jelly becomes uneven and has a poor finish, so we examined how to prevent this problem.

Lumina’s proposal and result

Alcohol has an antifoaming effect and is often used to eliminate air bubbles created in the production process of jellies and puddings. Since this is a food factory, we used all-stainless-steel STS-6RW-1.0X spray guns with a wide round spray. We eliminated bubbles by spraying an edible alcohol formulation after the filling process.

(Spraying conditions)
  • Atomizing air pressure: 0.05 MPa
  • Liquid pressure: 0.05 MPa
  • Target distance: 200 mm

As a result, air bubbles on the surface of the jelly were eliminated and gave the product a beautiful finish.

Example 2

User
Major bakery
Application
Preventing color changes for cakes containing bananas
Model used
STS-6-0.5X

Problem

At this maker, they encountered a problem where the raw bananas used in their banana roll cakes darkened, resulting in a loss of product value. They required a method to provide an alcohol-based liquid solution coating to prevent this blackening. Applying the solution manually was unrealistic because they engage in mass production. Therefore, they needed to automate this process.

Lumina’s proposal and result

Since this application was for a food product production line, we proposed an all stainless steel flat-fan pattern type STS-6-0.5X.
Two STS-6-0.5X spray guns were installed on the conveyor belt, one on each side, where they sprayed solution in the cross section where bananas were exposed in the passing roll cakes.

(Spraying conditions)
  • Atomizing air pressure: 0.05 MPa
  • Target distance: 100 mm
  • Liquid supply: Pressure feed tank

As a result, we successfully solved the issue of the darkening bananas. Also, the low atomizing air pressure ensured there was no solution overspray to surrounding areas.

Example 3

User
Margarine producer
Application
Alcohol sterilization
Model used
STS-6RW-1.0X

Problem

To prevent deterioration of commercial margarine, this margarine producer was using a process in which they sprayed a small amount of alcohol to the interior of a margarine container before filling and to the surface of the margarine after the container was filled. Originally, they were using an airless spray gun, but they were unable to fine-tune the fluid amount with this method and ended up soaking the target areas in alcohol as a result.

Problem illustration figure

Lumina’s proposal and result

Since this application was for a food production plant, we proposed an all stainless steel STS-6RW-1.0X.
Three were installed to provide the interior coating and three more to coat the surface of the margarine after filing, so six spray guns in total were installed.

(Spraying conditions)
  • Atomizing air pressure: 0.15 MPa
  • Liquid pressure: 0.05 MPa (using pressure feed tank)
  • Target distance: 150 mm

Using a wide round pattern type spray, they were able to provide a mist that adequately covered the entire target surface of the container.
They were able to adjust the atomizing air pressure to the appropriate amount, solving the overspray problem that had been troubling them.
